Dear America,
After last week’s good news story about how we as a country are actively pursuing many of the latest diet trends, I thought I would have better news for you about your overall health habits.
When looking at the big picture, it turns out that an overwhelming share of you spend a good part of your waking hours feeling:
- tired (84%);
- hungry (82%);
- overweight (62%); and
- grumpy (62%).
So when we spoke about this last year, I issued my stereotypical-parenting lecture that you need to take better care of yourselves and make very specific changes to your lifestyle. But it appears that you only listened for a short time and then gave up; or decided those rules were meant for other people, not you, because still today:
Last year, I admitted to at least one of these transgressions, and I’ll admit again that I haven’t gotten any better at it. So let’s make a summer resolution to pick one of the items on the list above and improve on it for the remainder of 2012 – and let’s check in on New Year’s to see how we have done.
Sincerely,
Peter
