We all have food preferences…. Like no matter how much barbecue sauce I ladle on top of tofu, I just can’t eat it. And my wife won’t eat anything that looks back at her, not even lobster, unless I crack it and remove it from the shell. The worst was when we went to the Brazilian Churrascaria and they wheeled out a whole pig with the apple in the mouth…I thought she was going to lose it right there and then.
We Americans can be discriminating (or is it stubborn?) regarding our food; 42% of us admit we are finicky, but based on my own experience, I think the figure is actually higher than this.
But one of the things that should not get lost in the conversation about our food choices (and consequently our health) is that the economy affects everything, including food. So what may be construed as pickiness may actually be an economic reality. Right now, almost 3 in 4 Americans say we are just getting by, and so perhaps as a result:
We have no data to support that these figures would be lower in more lush economic times but I am surmising that they might…
What do you think? Have you scrimped on your food choices or cut corners in any way in the past few years? Do you have any food quirks that you want to share?

Our business helps many residential customers and has been extremely slow due to the challenging economic conditions in our area. As a result, we’ve reduced our family food budget – less spur of the moment purchases and more following the shopping list.
