John Gray’s book “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus,” suggests that men and women are from different planets. That they operate from different points of view and that each gender functions normally within their own sphere of customs, but not so well with each other’s.
Perhaps Mr. Grey can explain the female paradox when it comes to food, as women are simultaneously more likely than men to do the following:
The rationale for these seeming contradictions may be logistical – women find themselves around food more often than men do, doing more grocery shopping and more cooking (both for themselves and others). But the rationale may also be emotional. We Americans, especially women, have an emotional attachment to food as evidenced by the latest fads in advertising and weight loss for women.
Today, women feel more tired and more stressed than men do and find it more difficult than men to:
- Avoid getting upset about small things (50% vs. 37%)
- Relax and do nothing (45% vs. 33%)
- Stop multi-tasking (51% vs. 37%)
- Exercise regularly (59% vs. 48%)
- Get the right amount of sleep each night (60% vs. 50%)
- Go to the doctor (54% vs. 46%)
Does this impact the kinds of food women put into their bodies? How they shop? And what they read? Our survey data says ….. most likely but not definitely yes.
