I am not sure what you all are doing this holiday season, but I am planning to see family on Christmas and go the movies with friends New Year’s Eve before gathering for the midnight celebration. Maybe even see the department store windows. This is the exact same thing I did last year and the year before that and the year before that. Actually as far back as we have lived in Armonk, (22 years) or before we have the wonderful friends we have today.
Old habits die hard, because like me, the majority of Americans follow the same holiday traditions year over year, rather than mixing it up. Younger folks tend to be slightly more inclined to think fresh for the holiday season, but maybe that’s just because they haven’t found that perfect annual cookie recipe or Nutcracker show.
And, I am pleased to report that more than 1 in 2 U.S. adults plan to buy a gift for a charity or non-profit this year. This is about the same – or more than – the percentage of Americans that plan to buy presents for their:
- Best friend (52%)
- Own self (46% – sure, why not?)
- Pet (46%)
- Boss (22%)
In other non-Grinchy holiday news, it turns out we don’t all even share the same gripes. Less than 1 in 3 Americans seem to complain about having to:
Glad we are keeping our holiday perspective! My New Year’s resolution will be to try to make sure that perspective lasts all year long…
